Shipping A Table Cross Country
March 1, 2024Packing paintings for a move requires careful attention to ensure they remain safe and undamaged during transit. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you pack paintings effectively:
- Cardboard corner protectors
- Bubble wrap.
- Packing paper or clean, soft cloths
- Packing tape
- Cardboard boxes or custom-built crates (for larger or valuable paintings)
1.Gather Supplies:
You’ll need appropriate packing materials such as:
2.Prepare the Painting:
Remove the painting from the wall carefully. If it has glass covering the artwork, use painter’s tape to create an “X” across the glass to prevent shattering if it breaks during transit. For unframed canvases, ensure they’re adequately protected.
3.Protect the Corners:
Place cardboard corner protectors over the corners of the painting to prevent damage from bumps or drops.
4.Wrap with Bubble Wrap:
Wrap the painting with several layers of bubble wrap, ensuring all sides are adequately covered. Secure the bubble wrap with packing tape.
5.Cover with Packing Paper:
Wrap the bubble-wrapped painting with packing paper or soft cloths for an extra layer of protection. Secure the packing paper with tape.
6.Label Boxes or Crates:
If using boxes, choose an appropriate size that allows for a snug fit without excessive movement. Label the boxes clearly as “Fragile” and indicate which side is up. For larger or valuable paintings, consider using custom-built crates for added protection.
7.Pack Carefully:
Place the wrapped painting into the box or crate gently, ensuring it’s positioned upright and surrounded by additional packing material (such as packing peanuts or extra bubble wrap) to prevent shifting during transit.
8.Seal and Reinforce:
Seal the box or crate securely with packing tape, reinforcing the seams and edges to prevent accidental openings.
9.Transport Safely:
When loading the moving truck, place the boxes containing paintings upright and secure them to prevent sliding or tipping during transit. Avoid placing heavy items on top of the boxes.
10.Unpack with Care:
When unpacking at your new location, handle the boxes containing paintings with care. Remove the packing materials gently to avoid damage to the artwork.
